September 7 2011 Charter with Steve and Jerry

I had Steve and Jerry out for a half day trip today. We had a little slow start to the day but we stuck with it and we were able to locate the fish. We moved around a little bit more than usual today. We started out getting some smaller redfish and jacks. Then they were able to catch some redfish with some slot fish that were 25", 26" , 21" and a few flounder. And on the last cast of the day Jerry caught a beautiful 29" redfish that fought and fought. What a great way to end a great trip.

September 5 2011 Charter with Ray and Becky

Today I had Ray and his girlfriend Becky out for a morning of fishing. Ray recently moved here from California and Becky had never gone fishing before. It was a total blast. Becky had a redfish in about the first 5 minutes of the charter. It was a fun little 12" to get her ready for the bigger ones. Within another five minutes Ray had a spotted sea trout and a ladyfish into the boat as well. Now that I had got them used to the fish and the tackle we moved on to the real deal. Within 15 minutes or so the bigger redfish started biting. I believe that they had over a dozen keepers with quite a few over 25" and one perfect 27". They also threw in a nice flounder as well. Becky did amazing casting and landing the fish for never having fished before. Ray had done a decent amount of fishing out west but he was blown away with the power of the redfish. It was a fun day on the water and all of the in 20+ m.p.h. winds. I am sure that I will be seeing them again in the future.

September 4 2011 Fishing with the Family

Today I took my wife and my son Finn out for a little fun time on the water. I haven't had the chance the last few weeks to get the family out on the boat so I had the day off and we went for it. We just went fishing for around 30 minutes before we went to the islands to let Finn swim around and play in the sand. I was able to get him to help me reel in some redfish and flounder. It was a blast seeing him try to reel in the fish. He would move back a little as the fish would splash and then be so excited again. I think he is starting to get the hang of it a little. Now we just have to work on that smile of his.

September 2 2011 Charter w/ John and Mary Ann-

Today I had John and his wife Mary Ann out for another great day of fishing. John come out with me quite often so I am always trying to get him something new. We got a little late start today so we were able to sneak in some nice redfish right off of the bat. As the tide started coming up we moved up onto the flats in search of some more redfish. We were able to find a nice school but they blew out before we had any takers. We decided to go look for some flounder. We got into a few decent flounder. I was able to get John his new personable best flounder. It was around a 4 or 5 pounder. He did a great job getting the fish in the boat as it spit the hook in the net. Another awsome day of fishing in Saint Augustine.

August 31 Charter with Tim and Jo

Wow, what a day of fishing. There were redfish everywhere. We had redfish on the flats and we had redfish in the creeks. I had repeat clients Tim and Jo out today. He had never be flood tide fishing with me before so I set up a great tide for him today. We pulled up to the first flat and after 15 minutes I saw the first redfish tail. It was in some very thick grass and he was not able to locate it. Another 10 minutes went by and another redfish popped up around 30 feet from us. Again it was in some thick cover and he did not locate this fish as well. I decided to move to another flat as the water level was rising. This flat had some thinner grass than the last flat. Before even getting out of the boat we saw an upper slot redfish doing his thing. Tim was able to get off a dozen or so casts in the direction of the fish before finally spooking it. These fish are digging threw the mud looking for crabs and shrimp so it is very important to get the cast in front of the fish whichever way he is heading. We walked a little farther and saw a nice size school of fish on a flat. There were around a dozen fish or so with there tails waving at us. There were also a few sheephead in the mix as well. Tim had some great casts but these fish were not interested in playing today. I decided to make the call and leave these fish to find some fish that were hungry and happy. As we pull up to the next flat we could see tails everywhere. There were in every direction and in groups of two to three fish. At one point there were 3 fish within 15 feet of us. I knew this would be Tim's first redfish on the flood tide. I had him throw his bait 15 feet past the redfish. As soon as it hit the water I had him reel real fast and when that redfish saw the bait come flying past his nose he exploded on it. Tim finally had his first flood tide redfish. We caught another one a short time later and as the tide started dropping the redfish exited off the flat in a hurry. Jo was not wanting to do the wade fishing deal so we now went looking for some redfish near some oyster bars. I believe Jo ended up with between 8 - 10 keepers and Tim had a few more as well. I love this time of year.
